    "CAREEN"
    METEORITE ATOP SMITHED COPPER SCULPTURE
    BY ARTIST: JAMES IVY

Sculptor James Ivy has pioneered incorporating natural history elements into his works of art and creates each of his one-of-a-kind pieces to invoke the perception of movement with items that were in motion tens of millions, if not billions, of years ago."Careen" is a hand-smithed/forged 20 gage Copper sculpture with an elongated Campo Del Cielo ("Field of the Sky") meteorite as the focus of the work. The metal backing of the sculpture is a graphic depiction of the atmospheric disturbance caused by such meteor "careening" towards the Earth at over 150,000 miles per hour. The brilliant, naturally-occurring colors were enhanced by a heat treatment. This beautiful sculpture measures 36 x 24 inches (91.44 x 60.96 cm). The attached Campo Del Cielo meteorite measures 6.5 x 4 x 2 inches (16.51 x 10.16 x 5.08 cm). Scientifically, Campo Del Cielo meteorites are classified as iron octahedrite - IAB and were thought to have fallen some 4,000 to 5,000 years ago northwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The craters, which contained iron masses, were first reported in 1576, but fragments were known to the aboriginal inhabitants of the area before that time. This wonderful sculpture from this cutting edge artist is already fashioned for wall hanging with hardware.

While I regret my inability to personally view the work, you provided an excellent substitute for my not being able to do so, and I look forward to future Heritage auctions.
