Maurice Sendak. The Acrobat. [New York City, NY]: Capricorn Press, [1959]. First edition. Signed by Sendak on the final panel. Single sheet, folded into eight panels, stitched as issued. 1.25" x 5" (31 x 127 mm).
Hand-colored by the artist and issued as a Christmas card in 1959. The rarest of all Sendak titles, only 30 copies printed, the publisher Bob Brooks and the artist each getting 15 copies to distribute. This copy is from the library of Judy Taylor, Sendak's British editor at The Bodley Head.
Only 3 copies located on OCLC and only one copy sold at auction, by Doyle in 2014.
Condition: Faintly toned, light soiling to bottom edge. In fine condition.
