Tonglushan Mine, Daye Co.
This unusual and intriguing specimen represents a massive, Malachite Stalactite from the Tonglushan Mine in Hubei Province, China. The smooth towering phallus measures a stout 10 inches (25 cm) long and displays a superb green hue. Out of the renowned Copper mine - which happens to be the oldest continuously operating Copper deposit in human history and source of Copper ore for China's Bronze Age - this was 'saved' by a Chinese miner out of respect for the uniqueness and natural organic beauty of the material. Different than the popular variety from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the offering is nicely smooth and visually striking. Presented on an intricate custom wooden base, the stalactite may display an inherent "mature" form but does represent an outstanding example of the secondary Copper mineral with a captivating combination of size, shape and color. This is one exceptional Malachite piece. The multi-tonal greenish "skin" of the piece covering the tall tower and 'sidecar' is in excellent condition.
