The partially inked drawing has a humorous inscription written in pencil, by Norman Rockwell, "Dear Don, This was my first attempt. Grandpa looks like a lecher in this one. Norman." A December 1, 1970 signed letter from Norman Rockwell to Donald Walton reads, "Dear Don: Here is the bookplate for Mr. Segel, and I hope it fills the bill. I am obviously enclosing this letter with my drawing for the mistletoe idea, and also a rough suggestion for one of a country church at Christmas. I hope that you will like them both. Cordially, Norman." The Franklin Mint plate comes in its decorative box, and has its certificate of authenticity as issued.
