    NOTE:
We wish to thank Lui Liu for verifying the authenticity of this lot based on photographs.

Born in North China during the Cultural Revolution, Lui Liu was surrounded by the echoes of socialist realism posters, and began creating posters himself, developing his artistic techniques. He continued to foster his artistry at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing where he explored surrealism and reality, as seen the Dangerous Game. Lui Liu recently returned to China after moving to Canada in 1991 where he encountered a cross culture exchange between the East and the West. Providing a unique perspective on both worlds, he creates paintings addressing the narrative of surreal cultural synthesis, transcending cultures and spaces. Dangerous Game beautifully illustrates Lui Liu's painterly capabilities in his rendering of the figural forms within the dreamlike composition. A truly exquisite work.

Liu's uncomfortable yet intriguing images communicate an undeniable quality that is discovered nowhere else except in our own dreams. As he himself has stated "Everyone has dreams. That is why painting dreams has become something an artist should do. My purpose in painting is merely to let other people see my paintings during the day, and think about their own dreams at night." Liu never fails to give life to dreams on canvas.
