    Description

    Leo Atkinson (late 20th Century)
    "Flower" Gem Formation Sculpture
    Brazilian amethyst
    50 x 23 x 20 inches (127 x 58.4 x 50.8 cm) on a 25 inch (63.5 cm) wooden base

This incomparable "kinetic" sculpture by renowned Sculptor of Minerals and Fossils, artist Leo Atkinson, consists of a two-piece natural tower of Amethyst specimens featuring lovely floral elements paired in a stacked design. The open geodic sections exhibit amazing 'florets' throughout the rocky rind with a deep cavity defining the lower piece. A metallic Copper armature has been integrated into the work of natural art to secure present both sections of mineral. The swivel feature allows the top to rotate independently of the bottom, and the two pieces come apart. The exterior is complex with mottled coloration, and the Copper work features a greenish patina. The sculpture which stands 50 inches (127 cm) rests on a black granite base with a freeform shape. The entire work is then presented on a custom wood pedestal with nice finish elements and considerable size elevating the piece on the base well above the floor in height.
