Ricardo Perez Alcalá was born in Potosí, Bolivia, and began exhibiting his artwork at the age of sixteen. He attended the Academia de Bellas Artes in 1952 and continued his studies at San Andrés University in La Paz and at San Simón University in Cochabamba, receiving degrees in architecture. A consummate technician, Alcalá represented Bolivia at the São Paulo Biennial, Brazil, in 1969 and 1973, and he has won numerous awards, including the 1975 National Grand Prize in Painting in La Paz and the Gold Medal at the 1983 Watercolor Salon in Mexico. Widely exhibited, his works are in collections throughout Latin and South America, the United States, and Europe.
