Description

Multi-Stone Intarsia Tabletop with Ammonite Fossils
Florence, Italy

A stunningly tessellated work of lapidary artistry, this one-of-a-kind tabletop exemplifies the highest level of craftsmanship and material excellence. Handcrafted in Italy, this is composed of 37 concentric bands of natural gemstones and ornamental stones, each meticulously cut and precisely inlaid to form a magnificent circular mosaic of color and texture. The outer bands present a spectacular medley of stones sourced from worldwide localities, including Lapis lazuli, black Onyx, Calcite, Amazonite, Ruby-in-Zoisite, Rhyolite, Malachite, Tiger's-Eye Quartz, Rhodochrosite, Crinoidal Marble, fossil Stromatolites, Jaspers, Picture Stone, Tiger Iron, Agate, Marble, and Mookaite, among others. Each material contributes its own hue and luster, creating a halo of rainbow colors that radiates toward the center with breathtaking harmony. At the heart of this extraordinary composition lies a field of polished black Onyx, inlaid with an array of fossil Ammonites from Madagascar. Their spiraling chambered shells, dating from the Lower Cretaceous Period approximately 100 million years ago, contrast dramatically against the geometric precision of the surrounding stonework-a symbolic meeting of natural history and human artistry. This remarkable creation represents a fusion of geology, craftsmanship, and design. It is both a functional masterpiece and a celebration of the Earth's geological splendor, embodying the timeless dialogue between nature and art. A chip to one edge does not detract from the tabletop's remarkable presence or visual integrity.
