"A clear light colored smoky quartz sphere with some very obvious doubly terminate [sic] quartz crystals floating in its center with some rutile needles and some mica? also included in the sphere. The quartz crystals appear somewhat silvery due to boundary layer reflection from the interface of the quartz with the included quartz."

Quartz included Quartz? More likely than you would think! Within the depths of this polished Quartz sits a multitude of doubly terminated Quartz crystals. Framed by fine wires of Rutile, the internal Quartz demonstrates some odd optical properties caused by the refraction of light through multiple crystal surfaces. The effect results in an almost-silvery appearance for these doubly terminated crystals. Flecks of mica add the finishing touches to this inclusion extravaganza, creating a dynamic scene within the orb. The web of rutile adds dimension to this piece, drawing the gaze towards the heart of the sphere and playing with the light. The polish on this piece is excellent, creating a lustrous surface that clearly displays the fine details. Rock purchased many of his polished Quartz Spheres from Roberto Dietz, who directed him towards many unusual inclusion specimens, several others of which are also listed in this auction.
