Description
Petrified Redwood SphereSequoia
Oligocene
Mahama Volcanics Formation
Sweet Home, Linn County
Oregon, USA
Petrified Wood is a bona fide "classic" and a prized material that can be cut and polished into appealing lapidary items. This example of ancient wood has been sculpted into a medium sized ornate sphere. As part of the fossilization process, the cell structure of the once living tree has been replaced by minerals creating an earthy colored orb. There are patches and swirls of rich browns and reds contrasting nicely with areas of tans and creamy whites. This is an excellent representation of attractive Petrified Wood from Oregon.
