Description

    Fluorescent Sphere
    Franklin Ore Body
    Franklin Borough
    Sussex Co, New Jersey

This outstanding sphere hails from the famed Franklin Ore Body in New Jersey. This world famous region produces some of the best fluorescent mineral material on the planet. This spectacular sizable orb was carved from granitic material consisting of Willemite, Calcite and Franklinite. Under normal lighting, the round specimen has subtle earthy tones of brown Willemite and creamy white Calcite and is speckled with a dark black peppering of Franklinite. When viewed under a short-wave ultraviolet light system, the unassuming white Calcite glows a fiery bright orange, while the brown Willemite lights up as an electric green. The non-fluorescing Franklinite remains stark black creating drama over the fascinating and predominantly orange ball. The overall appearance of this sphere under both normal lighting and short-wave ultraviolet light is something to behold. The example is in excellent condition and certainly worth considering for any collector. At nearly 6 inches (15 cm), the sphere is definitely a large lapidary offering.
Overall Measurements: 5.7 inches (14.47 cm) in diameter, 13 lbs. (5.89 kg.)
    Offered at no reserve.
