DescriptionAZURITE and MALACHITE EGG
Copper World Mine, Clark Mountain, Ivanpah District, San Bernardino Co., California, USA
<<blockquote>R The mix of blue Azurite and green Malachite has long been a treasured lapidary material. Ancient artifacts from around the globe have been fashioned from these two colorful minerals. In this case, the two have been hand-shaped into an egg of approximately chicken size and form. The source for this wonderful color combination is the Copper World Mine of California, near the Nevada border. The mine has been closed for decades and is now part of the Mojave National Preserve. Unlike spheres, egg shapes are always hand finished due to their asymmetrical form and the difficulty of machine grinding such lapidary items. Polish is good to excellent, particularly in light of the variable hardness of the different minerals making up the piece.
