Tiger Iron Slab. Ord Ranges (Tiger Iron), De Grey Station. East Pilbara Shire, Western Australia
Description
Tiger Iron SlabOrd Ranges (Tiger Iron), De Grey Station
East Pilbara Shire, Western Australia
Australia
Formed more than two billion years ago during the tectonic forces that shaped the Australian continent, Tiger Iron is a striking natural combination of red Jasper, chatoyant Tiger's-Eye, and metallic Hematite. The immense heat and pressure of that period fused these minerals into one of the most distinctive ornamental stones in the geological record-sometimes referred to as "Tiger-Eye Matrix." Although ancient in origin, large, high-quality slabs such as this are rarely available. The material's complexity-each mineral possesses very different physical properties-makes it particularly difficult to cut and polish successfully. Only a skilled lapidary can achieve the even surface and mirror-bright finish seen here. This fine specimen exhibits dramatic contrast between the hematite's metallic black, jasper's deep red, and tiger's eye's golden chatoyancy, creating a visually dynamic pattern. A superb and visually powerful example of this ancient Australian gemstone, notable for both its size and lapidary quality. There is a repair to one edge of the specimen.
