DescriptionTHUNDER EGG SLICE
Black Rock Desert
6.25 x 5.25 x 0.25 inches (15.87 x 13.33 x 0.65 cm)
This piece is actually a slice of a "thunder egg" nodule which formed within rhyolitic volcanic ash layers and is a specific geological structure. This example of the Oregon state rock has been polished to show the intriguing pattern of Chalcedony and Agate in the hollow "star" center diagnostic of "thunder egg" material. From the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, this specimen displays the characteristic mottled red and brown outer matrix. This slice has a tiny hole in the center of the unique and very colorful banding.
