Description

Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, & Gold Flower Study - "Bleeding Hearts"
Artist: Manfred Wild
Idar-Oberstein, Germany

A poetic homage to a northern European woodland blossom, this exceptional gemstone sculpture embodies the perfect synthesis of natural inspiration and masterful craftsmanship. Created by one of Europe's foremost lapidary artists, Manfred Wild, the work achieves a rare harmony between material excellence and artistic expression, exemplifying the pinnacle of contemporary lapidary art. The delicate Bleeding Heart flowers are realized in fifteen gem-quality Rubies, meticulously carved from fine East African material sourced from the renowned John Saul Mine in Tanzania, with a combined weight of approximately 152 carats. Each blossom glows with a rich, saturated crimson hue, its graceful pistils rendered in lustrous white Kascholong Opal from the Caspian Sea, providing a lyrical contrast of texture and tone. A dozen finely detailed Emerald leaves, sculpted from translucent Brazilian material and weighing approximately 183.5 carats, impart a vivid naturalism to the composition. Subtle accents of 109 pavé-set Diamonds (totaling approximately 1.10 carats) introduce a restrained brilliance, enhancing the composition with delicate radiance. The vase, carved from flawless Rock Crystal Quartz, is adorned with four inset Sapphire panels on its sides, flanked by two marquise Ruby cabochons and two triangular Emerald cabochons. Approximately 220 grams (7 troy ounces) of 18K Yellow Gold provide elegant structural and ornamental accents, underscoring the work's opulence and refinement. Resting upon a removable base of Russian Black Obsidian, the piece incorporates a concealed LED lighting system that gently illuminates the Rock Crystal and Sapphire panels from within, casting a luminous, ethereal glow throughout the sculpture. The underside bears the artist's signature, and the light is powered by a discreet 4.5-volt cord (not included). A triumph of lapidary artistry, this illuminated floral study unites gemological rarity with artistic virtuosity-an enduring testament to the intersection of nature and imagination.
