Description
Ruby & Obsidian Buddha CarvingArtist: Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio
Lima, Peru
A substantial and finely crafted sculpture, this exceptional work depicts the "Buddha of Wealth," also known as the "Laughing Buddha," a beloved symbol of prosperity, contentment, and joy. Revered throughout Asia, the Laughing Buddha is thought to bring good fortune and abundance to any home or business. According to tradition, the Laughing Buddha was inspired by Qiecí, a Buddhist Zen monk who lived in China over a thousand years ago. Renowned for his generosity and good humor, he served as a reminder that happiness and enlightenment could be found through laughter and compassion rather than austerity. Here, the Buddha is portrayed in a seated position, his ample form conveying serenity and mirth. The torso is carved from richly colored red Ruby from Tanzania, radiating warmth and vitality. His flowing robes are fashioned in Gold vermeil, their lustrous sheen beautifully complementing the deep red gemstone. The figure rests upon a circular base carved from black Obsidian, the border finely decorated with a coin motif, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. This impressive and auspicious sculpture unites spiritual symbolism and lapidary excellence, making it a commanding centerpiece for any distinguished collection.
