Rhodochrosite Flamingos on Emerald Base
    Artist: Peter Müller
Stone Source: Argentina, Zambia & Brazil

Here are two flamingoes, which have been meticulously carved out of Rhodochrosite from the famous Catamarca locality of Argentina. The distinct natural patterns of the Rhodochrosite, mimics the coloration of real flamingoes that are found around the world. It makes sense to depict two birds, as they are strong pair bond birds. One flamingo is larger than the other, suggesting, (from sexual dimorphism), that they are a "couple." The larger bird measures 5.9 x 1.9 inches (15 x 5 cm), while the smaller one measures 5.5 x 1.57 inches (14 x 4 cm). They each have Amber eyes and Obsidian beaks, and are accurate in their depiction. They stand, with their long gold plated sterling silver legs, on a polished Emerald base from Zambia. This base measures 8.66 x 5.9 inches (22 x 15 cm) and features unusually large Emerald crystals, which have been polished to enhance their rich green colors and crystal form. All of this sits on a cut and polished clear Quartz crystal base. The Capillitas Mine is no longer producing fine Rhodochrosite, so now may be one of the last chances to get a sculpture utilizing this gorgeous rich red-pink gemstone.
    Overall Measurements: 9.4 x 4.8 x 7.9 inches (24.0 x 12.2 x 20.0 cm)

    Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000.
