REMARKABLE "APACHE GOLD" SCULPTURE

This lovely specimen came from the United Verde Extension mine in Jerome, Arizona. The lapidary artist created this free-form sculpture out of bright and shiny gold Chalcopyrite in starkly contrasting black Schist. The mine in which it was found is located high on top of the Cleopatra Hill (5,200 feet) between Prescott and Flagstaff Arizona. The area was once a thriving mining town, but by 1953, after removing copper for more than 70 years, the mine was closed down. This gorgeous sculptural piece has a marbling effect due to the "fools gold" appearance of the Chalcopyrite. It is finished off with an exquisite polish and is in pristine condition.
Overall Measurements: 18 x 9.25 x 5.25 inches (45.72 x 23.5 x 13.34 cm) and weighs 48.5 pounds (21.9 kilograms)
