Petrified "Peanut" Wood Bowl
    Podocarpus Cretaceous
    Windalia Radiolarite Formation
    Kennedy Ranges, Carnarvon
    Western Australia

This one-of-a-kind lapidary piece was once living wood in Australia. The wood eventually petrified, but not before it was bored courtesy of bivalve or clams called Teredos. When the Petrified Wood was discovered, it was nicknamed "peanut wood" due to its resemblance to peanuts. The lovely material has still maintained its essential wood like appearance but with the addition of the boreholes. This distinctive bowl offers earthy tones of dark black and brown with the contrasting stark white patches of the boreholes. In the end, this is very interesting material, which has been expertly prepared into an attractive practical bowl which is in great condition.
