    Opal Skull Statue: "Pinky"
    Artist: Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio
    Stone source: Peru

Pinky? Pink is a color normally associated with Barbie or bubble gum, but skulls?? Not so much. Maybe it is just this kind of thematic dissonance that Luis Quispe had in mind when he chose this festive opal, the color of spam. We love the way it mixes snark with technical virtuosity. It doesn't hurt that the opal is from his native Peru, either. On the technical side, note how the carving manages to incorporate multiple cavities, including a big one that goes from top to bottom that is lined with what looks to be, Calcite crystals. Pinky is unadorned except for the vermeil vertebral column that the rosy creation is perched upon. The other end of that vertebral column is mounted on a polished Obsidian plinth, adorned with eight more skulls carved from Rainbow Obsidian.
    Overall Measurements: 9.8 x 9.1 x 6.3 inches (25 x 23 x 16 cm)

Provenance: The Faces of Eternity Skull Collection
