    Native Copper Bookends
    Michigan, USA
    4.72 x 2.17 x 1.65 inches (12.00 x 5.50 x 4.20 cm)

Copper is a popular, prized, and unmistakable metal, and material from the famed Keweenaw Peninsula of Northern Michigan is as good as it gets. When paired together, the two shiny metallic halves measure about 5 inches (13 cm) tall, as well as wide. Each side offers a "half-domed" shape, vibrant polish, sealed display face, partly coated patina exterior, rough backing and cork-covered bottom. The pair is not large, but the weight will surely hold up most all books of appropriate size. This duo combines to tip the scales at 2.3 kilograms (5 pounds). Some circular 'blotches' under the coated finish are visible especially on one of the sides giving an unusual, inconsistent and oddly "organic" nature to the worked material. Copper is not technically a precious metal but does have all number of applications and uses. The pair of bookends shows the beauty and function of Copper, which is becoming scarcer and, thus harder to find, over time.
