Description
Manhattan Project GlassManhattan Project Hanford Site
Southeastern Washington, USA
This exquisite piece of Manhattan Project Glass originated from the material earmarked for the Hanford Plutonium Reactor in Washington State that was part of the famed Manhattan Project which developed the atomic bomb technology that helped to end World War II. This type of specimen is some 70 percent Lead Oxide so its weighs a considerable amount for the size. This incredible example of the rather rare and historically significant material weighs a robust 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms). The fully transparent and stunning golden-yellow colored piece exhibits numerous faces and edges over its oddly geometric form. Manhattan Project Glass is not considered to be radioactive, and, in fact, it was the insulating properties of the bricks to protect the employees at the Hanford facility from radiation. The additional bonus of this glass it that it features a fine polish with no real visible scratches unlike so many specimens of its variety. This is a top-example of the coveted material.
