This large Lapis lazuli free-form piece is a fine representation of the material from Afghanistan which is considered some of the best produced. This rock type - containing primarily Lazurite, Calcite and Pyrite - has been prized since antiquity for its intense deep blue color. This specimen of Lapis (actually the Latin word for "stone") has a unique offset shape and characteristic banding of silvery white with gold flecks. This sizable polished specimen is quite decorative and will sit beautifully as an adornment in any space.
