Description

Polished Fluorescent Skull
Franklin Mining District
Sussex County
New Jersey, USA
3.62 x 2.77 x 2.26 inches (9.20 x 7.03 x 5.75 cm)

Expertly carved and polished into a classic skull form, this distinctive decorative piece reveals an entirely different character under ultraviolet light. In normal lighting, the stone displays a mottled blend of gray, black, and subtle pinkish tones, creating an attractive natural pattern across the highly polished surface. Exposure to Shortwave Ultraviolet light transforms the specimen, as fluorescent minerals within the stone glow with vivid shades of orange, red, and magenta, producing a dramatic visual effect that contrasts sharply against the darker matrix. The carving captures the contours of the skull with well-defined features and a smooth, reflective finish. Equally appealing as a lapidary artwork and a fluorescent mineral display, this eye-catching piece offers two distinctly different viewing experiences in a single specimen.

Estimate: $300 - up.
