Inferno Agate Sculpture: "Flames"
    Sculptor: Perry Brent Davis
    Stone Source: Chihuahua, Mexico

"Inferno Agate" is a most appropriate term for the raw material used to generate this brightly blazing rendition of wind-blown flames. The source for this colorful Agate is the northern state of Chihuahua, Mexico, not far from the source of the more familiar: Laguna Agate. The material used for this sculpture falls somewhere between Agate and Jasper, showing characteristics of both. The swirling patterns of red, orange, gold, and even a little blue, are very typical of Agate, as are the tiny "geodes" that appear in several places in the piece. However, the broad expanses of opaque color are very much a sign of Jasper. The mix brings a subtly shifting range of patterns to the piece, when it is viewed from side to side. The theme of "flames" is enhanced by a hole pierced from front to back, separating one flame from the rest, and giving greater definition to the concept. All surfaces are exquisitely polished: a touch that his sculptures are known for. An elegant stone and metal base, allowing free rotation of the piece, complete the sculpture, and it has a fitted hard case to protect it in transport. The sculpture is signed: Davis number 217, and is in pristine condition.

Overall Height: 8.0 inches (20.4 cm)
