Description

    Dinosaur Bone Belt Buckle
    Jurassic
    Morrison Formation
    Utah
    3.21 x 2.28 x 0.39 inches (8.15 x 5.80 x 1.00 cm)

One major advantage of "Gem" Dinosaur Bone is that it can be cut and polished, then made into various applications. Here, a large cabochon of "gem red bone" has been fashioned into the heart of a brass belt buckle. This piece is very solid, and the cabochon is a full 3 inches (7.62 cm) across its polished surface. A key characteristic of this particular sample is that the internal vascular structure is rather well-preserved.

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
