Description

    Complex DeGrussa Slab
DeGrussa Copper Mine, Doongunna Station, Peak Hill Goldfield, Meekatharra Shire, Western Australia, Australia

This slab is quite the mineralogical wonder and has a story to tell. This piece originated as native Copper, but overtime it has morphed into something so much more. This former Copper slab has been subjected to rising and falling pH and Eh levels, variable water temperatures, and relentless weathering. There are some patches of Copper left, but now it has mostly transformed into Cuprite and furthermore, due to the weathering and oxidation, the Cuprite has turned into Malachite. The transformation doesn't stop there: several areas of silicification have occurred where the Malachite was less stable and silica colored Copper was the result. Due to all these relentless processes, cavities have been formed allowing silica to reside as various forms of Chrysocolla, drusy Quartz and gemmy red Cuprite. Regardless of the science behind this piece, it all comes down the beautiful myriad of Copper minerals and their breathtaking marriage of color. Between the sky-blue Chrysocolla to the dark forest green of the Malachite against the contrasting brown Native Copper no one loses with this piece. This polished free form slab is in excellent condition and is truly one-of-a-kind.

It would indeed have been much simpler to work with a local auction house, and we had local options. But we never once regretted going with Heritage.
