Description

    BIGGS JASPER SLAB
    Biggs, Sherman Co., Oregon, USA

Although Native Americans have used this fine Jasper for arrowheads and scrapers dating back over a hundred years or so, it was not until a huge flood near Biggs, Oregon washed clean great boulders and exposed the Jasper in situ. Even though the road crew repairing the flood damage was credited with this find, the material was actually uncovered by the flood and not the road crew! Once word of such a fantastic discovery spread, so many collectors appeared on the unfinished road that the construction supervisor was forced to halt all collecting. The Jasper was so coveted that collectors actually caused delays to the completion of the highway. Of all the Jaspers, Biggs is still one of the most sought after varieties in the world, and even today it is regarded as one of the finest picture Jaspers on the market. A high content of silica allows for a high polish, and layers of Iron and Manganese make wonderful "landscape" scenes not found in any other Jaspers. This slab features a sinewy pattern that intensifies toward the center.
    Overall Measurements: 14.25 x 9 x 0.25 inches (36.2 x 22.86 x 0.64 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
