Backgammon Set with Board and Pieces
Stone Source: Shattuckite: Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre)
Petrified Wood: Arizona, USA
Artist: Konstantin Libman

Played for thousands of years, backgammon is a longstanding staple in human culture. The exterior on this remarkable game board is made from bright blue Shattuckite from the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre). The rich Shattuckite features the most stunning blues and greens due to the stone being a by-product of Copper. This uncommon mineral is known for its spectacular shades of turquoise with patches of Malachite and red coppery tones finished with a metallic luster. This material has been inlaid masterfully on all sides to create a cohesive book-matched appearance. Once opened, the game board explodes with amazing colors from natural book-matched "rainbow" Petrified Wood from Arizona displaying predominately earthy reds, with browns, yellows and distinct black rings. This ancient material still resembles a tree creating an exciting backdrop for this highly strategic game. The twenty-four triangular "points" are hewn out of "Gem" Dinosaur Bone. The high quality Dinosaur Bone is from Utah has been precisely inlaid and showcases the ancient cellular structure of the bone. The fossilized ancient material was filled in with minerals of plum purple, dark brown, and white colors, as well as pockets of Quartz crystals. This impressive game set comes with thirty-six checker pieces hewn from exotic white Kacholong (white Opal) from Africa and jet black Nephrite from Australia. The checkers rest in exquisite dark Beechwood holders surrounded by clean lines of black Diabase (Dolerite) with flecks of glass creating an iridescent appearance. Masterfully crafted by artist Konstantin Libman, this game board is numbered "0441" and is in excellent condition. The set also comes with two wooden, velvet lined presentation boxes for both the board and the checkers and dice. Backgammon is considered a game of both strategy and luck, and lucky will describe a player who ends up with this one-of-a-kind set.
