Description

Agate Slab
West Java Province
Indonesia

This spectacular Agate Slab, sourced from the remote volcanic landscapes of West Java Province, Indonesia, is a premier example of the region's highly collectible Marcasite-in-Chalcedony formations. At an impressively large scale for the variety, nearly 13 inches (33 cm) in length, the specimen features a highly polished display face, revealing an intricate interplay of semi-translucent Chalcedony, metallic Marcasite, striking coloration of warm orange, red, and soft pink hues, and swirling, organic patterns. The polished face is further punctuated by golden-brown metallic Marcasite, radiating in a dendritic habit across the slab like natural brushstrokes. Scattered drusy Quartz-lined pockets shimmer with microcrystals, adding luster and depth, while natural cavities throughout the structure add a sculptural character. While the specimen does evidence a repaired crack, it remains in good overall condition, preserving the dramatic impact and structural integrity. The edge has been left in a natural state, lending rugged authenticity, while the back remains unpolished. Due to the extreme rarity of Marcasite forming in harmonious combination with well-banded Chalcedony, slabs of this magnitude and mineralogical richness are highly prized among collectors, decorators, and lapidaries alike. A true showpiece, equally suitable for fine mineral displays, interior statement décor, or geological study.
Measurements: 12.28 x 7.91 x 0.33 inches (31.20 x 20.10 x 0.85 cm)
