    Description

    Shattuckite Box
Stone Source: Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre)

Shattuckite is actually an uncommon Copper mineral; however, there is nothing uncommon about this box. This large decorative box exhibits an attractive bright sea-blue coloration. The color is so intense a camera is unable to capture the color. This piece needs to be seen in person to comprehend its beauty. This gorgeous box has veins of light blue Shattuckite amid darker areas of orangey-brown Cuprite and clear drusy Quartz. Each side has been book-matched to create maximum appeal. The inside is lined with Spanish Cedar and finished with two gold-plated hinges. The bottom is made of black Diabase (Dolerite) which contains flecks of glass creating a glistening affect and finished with felt feet. There is one tiny nick on the back right hand corner near the base.
    Overall Measurements: 6.87 x 4.8 x 2.25 inches (17.44 x 12.2 x 5.71 cm)

    Provenance: Central Coast Collection

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
