Description

Shattuckite Box
Stone Source: DR Congo
Artist: Konstantin Libman

Shattuckite from the Democratic Republic of Congo is among the most visually striking secondary Copper minerals used in ornamental stonework. Celebrated for its rich blue coloration and distinctive patterning, the material has become increasingly sought after by both mineral collectors and lapidary artists. Some of the finest examples originate from the Katanga Copper Belt, a region renowned for producing vibrant Copper-bearing minerals. This impressive collector's box measures over 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in length and showcases the dramatic patterns and deep, moody hues characteristic of the material. The stone displays a striking interplay of varying blue tones, splashes of green Malachite and metallic reddish-brown Cuprite, with Shattuckite covering all primary exterior surfaces. The lid is butterfly-matched, highlighting the stone's natural patterning in a symmetrical display. The interior chamber is lined with Spanish cedar, reminiscent of a traditional humidor, and fitted with Gold-plated Brass hinges and protective felt feet. Crafted by lapidary artist Konstantin Libman, the piece bears the artist's mark "0837" on the base and is accompanied by a protective outer wooden box. Combining exceptional material with refined craftsmanship, this sculptural object functions both as a decorative mineral artwork and a functional keepsake box, making it a compelling addition to a distinguished collection.
Measurements: 6.61 x 4.33 x 1.77 inches (16.80 x 11.00 x 4.50 cm)
