Description

Petrified Wood Box
Artist: Konstantin Libman
Stone Source: Washington, USA

This finely crafted decorative box by artist Konstantin Libman is composed of precisely cut and polished slabs of petrified wood sourced from Washington State-believed to be fossilized oak. The slabs are beautifully book-matched at the seams, creating a harmonious visual flow that highlights the stone's natural fine-grained cellular structure, preserved in remarkable detail through the process of silicification. The box features a piano-hinged lid, which opens to reveal an interior lined with aromatic Cedar wood, blending ancient fossilized material with warm, living texture. The artist's number "0461" is marked on the bottom, confirming its authenticity and place in Libman's limited body of work. The piece is finished with felt feet for surface protection and is accompanied by a custom outer wooden protective box for safe storage or gifting. A sophisticated and tactile fusion of geological history and modern craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of natural materials, fine woodworking, or functional art.
