An impressive large-scale intarsia box, constructed from expertly fitted sections of rich green Malachite sourced from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The natural banding and concentric patterns of the mineral are beautifully displayed, with the sides measuring 0.75 inch (1.9 cm) thick, emphasizing both craftsmanship and material quality. The box features gilt-metal mounts, including a thumbpiece and floral decorations at each corner, and rests on four lion's paw feet. The hinged lid opens to reveal a gold chain support, preventing it from extending fully. A substantial and finely executed decorative piece, uniting the bold natural beauty of Congolese Malachite with elegant metalwork and refined intarsia construction.
