    Description

    GREEN RIVER FOSSIL BOX
    Handcrafted in Wyoming
    Fossil Source: Wyoming & Utah

This magnificent box is composed of a variety of woods including Black Walnut Burl, Cocobolo and Hickory, which makes for appealing contrasting sections. The mix of brown, tan and red over the entire box is truly magnificent. However, the treasure found here is a fully prepared, top quality fish fossil, known as a Priscacara liops, from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This ancient ancestor of a perch dates to the Eocene some 56 million years ago. This particular specimen is one of the less common varieties found in this renowned locality and one of the most prized. The fish measures 5.5 x 2.88 inches (13.97 x 7.31 cm) and is well prepared and well preserved. The box includes the lagniappe of a fossil leaf from Utah measuring 1.25 x 0.31 (3.17 x .78 cm). This distinctive box features the unique serial number 577 and is in excellent condition.
    Overall Measurements: 15.88 x 5.87 x 4.5 inches (40.32 x 14.92 x 11.43 cm)
