Stone Source: Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA and South Ural, Russia
Artist: Konstantin Libman
This adorable "keepsake" box has been made by hand. The lid is inlaid with fluorescent Willemite, Calcite and non-fluorescing Franklinite from the famed Sterling Mine in New Jersey. The rest of the box consists of stark black Diabase (Dolerite), which is a type of Basalt. The Diabase has tiny Tachylite (dark mafic glass) inclusions giving the stone a shimmering effect. Not only does this little box look stunning now, wait until it is viewed under short-wave ultraviolet light. The Willemite glows an electric green, while the Calcite is seen as a fiery red-orange. Many secrets are hidden within this prized box which is in excellent condition. This piece comes with a custom protective wooden outer box.
