Along with Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood, John Steuart Curry was one of the top artists of the regionalist movement. His work evoked a romanticism for the heartland of America painted in a bold dramatic style. His most famous work was the mural in the Kansas State House entitled Tragic Prelude featuring a dramatic depiction of the famous Kansas abolitionist, John Brown. (pictured)
