The iconic form of the perfectly symmetrical heart has been a part of Jim Dine's vocabulary since the mid-1960s. It has appeared prominently in his paintings, drawings and prints as well as in his sculptures. Jim Dine once said that hearts function as a, "sign that one can care, that there is a constant presence of feeling". Dine's touch is evident in this work, with imprints of his hand frequently appearing on his sculptures. In this work, Dine demonstrates his ability to transform the superficial interest in objects into a language of expression and emotion.
