This Gold nugget from the Kalgoorlie area of Australia is very far from ordinary. The shape alone puts this in the upper echelon of any nuggets of similar size as the gorgeous "hourglass" form is exquisite in a most unusual way with various twists and crevices over its beautiful and extremely shiny golden surface. One hole contains a clearly visible rock of reddish stained Quartz, and other remnant matrix can be seen inside one of the other cavities upon closer inspection. The combination of shape, size, and luster in this offering results in a most sublime collector specimen. Weighing 85 grams (2.75 oz t), this represents a lot of Gold as there is very little visible matrix. Of course, the specimen value of this example on sheer aesthetics alone makes it much more valuable than the net content of its Gold.
