    Louisa Chase, an accomplished and well regarded artist whose work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, amongst many others, befriended Dale Chihuly in the 1970s while they both had teaching positions at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence.

    In the early 1980s Chihuly was making his initial forays into his seminal Seaform series. This large, undulating platter-shaped sculpture was gifted by Chihuly to Chase.
