Description

A REPAIRED DAUM PATE-DE-CRISTAL AND BRONZE SCULPTURE DESIGNED BY SALVADOR DALI (SPANISH, 1904-1989): VELOCIPIDE HORSE (LEG DAMAGED)
Circa 1990, edition 608/850
Marks: DALI
15-3/8 inches high (39.1 cm)

This sculpture, inspired by Dali's 1938 painting bearing the same name, belongs to the series of figural works Dali created to symbolize various emotions and ideals through transmutation. This sculpture, in which the blind horse seems to start its transmutation into a bicycle or car, becomes a phantasmagorical allegory denouncing "ghastly mechanical civilization" in what Dali referred to as the "empire of the premonitory".
