DescriptionVery Rare Gemstone: Mangano-Tantalite - 9.44 Ct.
Muiâne Pegmatite, Alto Ligonha District, Zambezia Province, Mozambique
Mangano-Tantalite is very rarely low enough in Iron to be transparent, but this is an exception: a blood red, rectangular cushion style gem of exceptional size and eye clean clarity. The brilliant luster of the stone is due to its very high Refractive Index (R.I.) The Tantalum contained in this gem is an essential component of modern electronics and industrial process equipment. In many areas of technology, there are no substitutes for it. Mozambique is one of the non-conflict producers of this rare metal and the Muiâne Mine is home to the incredibly small amount of Tantalum ore suitable for faceting. The rough was found in 1999 and was cut by Mike Gray; master gem cutter of Missoula, Montana.
Measurements: 12.11 x 8.21 x 4.28 mm, 9.44 cts.
