Description
Very Rare Gemstone: Cuprite - 149.36 Ct.Onganja Mine, Onganja, Seeis, Windhoek District, Khomas Region, Namibia
The combination of deep, blood-red color and semi-metallic luster gives an eerie feel to this unusual treatment of the uber rare gem material: Cuprite. This triangular gemstone was fashioned from the big find in 1974 of Malachite encrusted Cuprite crystals up to several kilos in weight. Not all were suitable for cutting and, as a result, there never were many faceted examples. Current availability is limited to the occasional example liberated from a collection like this one. This exceptional gem was cut by Mike Gray of Missoula, Montana, internationally recognized rare gemstone cutter.
Measurements: 32.25 x 30.78 x 14.41 mm, 149.36 cts.
Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Rainbow of Africa Collection
