TSAVORITE

Very Fine Gemstone: Tsavorite Garnet - 11.06 Ct.
Voi, Taita Taveta District, Coast Province, Kenya

Tsavo National Park in Kenya has very likely benefited enormously from its linkage with the Vanadium/Chromium bearing variety of Grossular Garnet found only in East Africa and named for the park: Tsavorite. Ever since Tiffany and Co. named this unique variety of Garnet, in 1974, it has established a firm position among the "new" gemstones found in the last half-century. Always some shade of green, this verdant gem possesses a sparkle and brilliancy that captivates the eye in a different fashion from other green gems. This oval mixed cut stone features light grass-green color that emphasizes the high dispersion (twice as much as Emerald) and high refractive index that gives the material such "fire." The rough for this eye clean stone was found in 2002, and it was cut in Bangkok, Thailand, one of the major cutting centers of the world. Hard and durable, this 11+ carat gem is perfect for a ring-stone. It comes with an AGL Cert #CS 65943 that confirms that it is completely natural and free from any treatments or enhancement. As Henry Platt, former President of Tiffany's, once remarked: "Tsavorite is everything that a fine gemstone should be, and then some."
