Very Fine Gemstone: Tourmaline var. Rubellite - 49.92 Ct.
Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria

In 1998 the hot news in the gem world was a find of alluvial Tourmaline from west of the town of Ogbomosho in Nigeria, near the Benin border. Much material was quickly gleaned from the gravels of the area and then ... the supply dried up. The rough, that this modified brilliant cushion was cut from, was found during that boom period. It ended up being cut in Arusha, Tanzania. At 49.9 carats, it is a large, eye clean stone and it shows the 'smoky' pinkish purple color typical of Ogbomosho Tourmaline. The accompanying AGL Cert # CS 65955 indicates that it is entirely natural with no treatments or enhancements.
