Sweet Home Mine (Home Sweet Home Mine), Mount Bross, Alma District, Park Co., Colorado, USA

Along with the fine Sweet Home Rhodochrosite specimens that were produced during the 1990s, there were crystal pieces that were 'clean' enough to furnish material for faceted gems. When master gem cutters tackled the material the results were spectacular. A case in point is this rectangular, scissors cut gemstone with clipped corners: it is as good as it gets. The limpid transparency takes full advantage of this cut to showcase the phenomenal deep red-pink color that the best Sweet Home Rhodochrosites can show. This material is characterized by an intense saturated "hot pink" color with no trace of the brown tinge frequently observed in material from other localities. There are a few 'veil' type inclusions, but for all practical purposes, this stone is eye-clean in a face up orientation. The stone weighs almost 22 carats and is in perfect condition.
    Overall Measurements: 17.2 x 12.7 x 10.8 mm, 21.93 ct.
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Iteco, ex. Sandor Fuss Collection [Hoppel #C0005]
