DescriptionRARE GEMSTONE: KUNZITE - 22.14 CT.
Kunzite is a very young gemstone: it was not described until 1902 when world-renown gemstone specialist George Frederick Kunz wrote a comprehensive description of a new stone which had just been discovered in California. And since newly discovered gemstones are usually given the name of their discoverer, it was named Kunzite in his honor. Although its hardness is fairly good, between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale, this gem has perfect cleavage and is thus extremely difficult to facet. Kunzites are brilliant gemstones, as can be seen in this bright pink Kunzite with lilac highlights. It is an eye-clean oval Portuguese-cut stone and is in fine condition.
Measurements: 20.72 x 13.14 mm, 22.14 carats. Offered at no reserve.
