Rare Gemstone: Alexandrite - 0.74 Cts.
    Presumed Urals Region

Known as one of the rarest colored gemstones, Alexandrite, a variety of Chrysoberyl, has a fascinating history, named in honor of Russian Tzar Alexander II. It also features a captivating color change habit. In daylight, this stone has a stunning "emerald" greenish-blue hue yet, in incandescent light, it appears purplish-red. This is caused by the stone's near-equal transmission of blue-green and red in terms of the color spectrum, in addition to its ability to absorb yellow. This trichroic stone, at nearly three-quarters of a carat, has been cut into an oval shape with a Ceylon cut featuring a brilliant cut crown and step cut pavilion. This little stunner is slightly included but exhibits exceptional brilliance. Alexandrite ranks an 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale making it an ideal stone to set into a ring. This gemstone may be small, but, while not documented, it is believed this example could be from the type locality for the material and is in excellent condition.
    Measurements: 6.81 x 4.87 x 3.15 mm, 0.74 cts.
