This large Tanzanite is a perfect example of this incredible and prized gemstone material. With larger sizes, such as this stone, the pleochroic color habit really becomes evident. At first glance, the dark Sapphire-like blue draws the viewer in, and, after closer inspection, a beautiful rich violet-purple becomes obvious until, finally, the viewer is struck with magnificent flashes of red. The stone has a cert stating heat treatment is evident, however, red flashes are typically an indicator that a stone has not been heat treated, but heating Tanzanite is a common and generally accepted practice to intensify color. This cushion shaped stone features a brilliant cut crown and checkerboard cut pavilion. This popular material is perfect for mounting in jewelry and wearing around town. There is one tiny chip on the table, but, otherwise, this eye-clean stone is in near pristine condition.
