    Description

    Gemstone: Stibiotantalite - 3.39 Cts.
    Alto Ligonha District
    Zambezia Province
    Mozambique

Stibiotantalite is a rare mineral associated with granite pegmatites. After this mineral is mined, it is usually presented as single crystals and not commonly cut and faceted into gemstones. This fine example is nearly 3.4 carats and displays an attractive golden honey-brown hue. Due to its soft nature, Stibiotantalites are very difficult to cut; however, this stone has a nice trillion shape with pleasing facets and polish. Characteristically, Stibiotantalites sometimes are confused with Sphalerites but have greater dispersion and birefringence than Sphalerites. This stone lights up with incredible fire and has an overall pleasing honey hue. Due to the nature of the stone, there are visible inclusions and a fingerprint inclusion is visible breaking across the table. Overall, the stone presents very well and is in great condition.
    Measurements: 7.99 x 6.92 x 4.28 mm, 3.39 cts.

    Provenance: The Jena Blue Collection
